What's Happening Now?
Construction for the permanent plaza will begin on Monday, March 9. Detours signs will be in place, please follow the signage to maintain safety in the work zone. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic and people biking and walking.
What to Expect During Construction
- Typical work hours between 7AM and 6PM, Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend or weekend work is possible.
- Partial or full road and sidewalk closures with posted detours.
- Possible parking restrictions near work zone.
- Access to businesses and residences always maintained.
- Typical construction noise, dust, and vibrations will occur.

Project Overview
The Thomas St Plaza is the second phase of the East of Seattle Center connection in the Thomas St Redefined project. As an important east/west green street and public realm connection identified in the Bicycle Master Plan as a Neighborhood Greenway, Thomas St links the Cascade neighborhood through South Lake Union to Seattle Center. Installing the permanent plaza will complete the project.
Project Design

Work Includes
Improvements on Thomas St between 5th Ave N and Taylor Ave N include:
- Permanent vacate Thomas St from 5th Ave N to alleyway with hardened curb at intersection
- Install special pavers in the project area
- Construct Shared Use Path on north side of Thomas St Plaza
- Install additional seating
- Add new trees, landscaping, and lighting
- Install drainage improvements
